To be honest, I try not to do that. I like to clean up the object when I'm done with it. If the user has Word open with a document, I'm not sure how kindly he/she would take it if I used their instance and then messed around with it or closed it later on. For that reason I normally use CreateObject() to set up my own instance of Word.
