Matt;
You have some good answers so please excuse what follows - it is just me and it is Friday morning - so I am dangerous! :)
ASP 1.0 gave us the ability to display data on a web page and create “robust” Browser based applications. ASP 2.0 corrected the problems introduced by ASP 1.0. ASP 3.0 corrected the problems introduced by ASP 2.0. ASP.NET corrected the problems introduced by ASP 3.0.
ASP.NET is in version 1.0. With the introduction of version 2.0 perhaps late next year, version 2.0 promises to correct the problems introduced by version 1.0. By the time the product becomes mature and we realize its limitations and abilities it will be time to start learning a new programming language as by then Microsoft will need a new infusion of money to help insure its strategy of dominance in the computer software world.
