Installation turns out to be a problem. BUT I am too frustrated right now and am putting it aside until tomorrow, when my head may be a little clearer.

Something so simple as a download/install shouldn't be this troublesome, even for one IE-ignorant like me. All they had to do was to include the damned BOL with MSDE in the first place!
