>>>Version control with PVCS is a walk in the park. It is very easy to mark a set of files with a version stamp, unlike VSS. Checking in and out is very quick. I've been experimenting with having the archive files on a central server or having each developer keep their project archive files on their local HD. The latter seems more promising because of speed and space savings. (We have about a dozen programmers, eaching working on many independent projects some of which have to be rewritten each year and may have several versions. We think we would fill up a two gig server very quickly if all archinving were done on the one server.

>>>I've also noticed that it survives crashes without problems (so far - knock on wood).

>>>A note: before you can add a DBC to version control you must clean up the project (which closes all the project manager branches), issue a close database and then close the project. Open the project again but don't open the database tree. Add the DBC to version control.
>>>Also, on occasions, when comparing a souce code listing of a current method with that of its prior version, a line of binary code at the top of the current liisting prevents a line-by-line comparison with a previous version. ??? Minor problems considering what I ran into while testing VSS.

>>Hey Jerry, which of the PVCS apps are you talking about?

>Only PVCS (Program Version Control System) from Intersolv. Haven't tried the other parts of their package.
Ahhh... I haven't looked at the PVCS Version Manager App yet, just the PVCS Tracker app. Looking at the Intersolv site today I noticed that now they are offering all their apps bundled together as "Intersolv PVCS Pro" and included enterprise-wide management capability. Is this what you have at your site - the Professional version? We were working with the Intersolv sales reps in Early December before this latest version was released and I wasn't informed the Pro edition was soon to be released, so all I got as an evaluation copy was the standalone Tracker App. But I will definitely take a look at the other software development management modules (Version Control app and Configuration Builder app) as an alternative to SourceSafe once I get a development team in place. Thanks Jerry!
