I am sure you know it, but this is only for those who read this thread and don't know this (since it's not very clear specified in the docs):

SET CENTURY affects also the result of almost all date related functions, regardless if the result is displayed or used for internal calculations. It's true that it has no effect on the fields of date type. But it affects any date stored in a character type field. Also affects indexes that use date functions (except DTOS()) for compound keys.

The same goes for SET DATE settings.
