7. N-tier development with VFP. Or VFP as the middle-tier...



Wow, you really opened the door here... :o)
Six ideas:

1. Commnications with VFP. There are not enough samples or papers on that! Using the mscomm32 control... etc. Developers are always posting questions here on the UT for that one and I believe the samples on MSFT's website are really lacking. Maybe communicating with a modem or sending faxes directly via VFP or sending messages via a modem to phones (phone message service kindof for late payments, etc). Or maybe sending messages to pagers...

2. Generating pdf files from vfp. Are there any free controls out there that could be used with the paper?

3. Or how to do a simple webserver app using vfp and the free Eeva Webserver from start to finish?

4. Or how to create a baseline error-trapping framework and use it to create all of your VFP apps?

5. Or how to create a baseline security (login) framework and use it to create all of your vfp apps?

6. Or how to write a simple VFP app from the ground up that is ready for upsizing to SQlServer later? (where it can use local or remote views or spt, etc)

Just some thoughts. Some of these are already available in commercially available frameworks, but many developers do not know how to do it on their own and do not own a framework due to cash-flow issues.

UPDATE: I think item number 6 may be out-of-date shortly with the release of Toledo-I believe Ken stated that will be much simpler with new controls or classes built-in to VFP8...
