It turns out that when the HP stopped printing several other computers lost connection too (of course I was not provided this info). It happens that the HP printer and the same computers are on the same hub (not even a switch). It also happens that the day and time the printer and computers went down was same day that inventory was taken. While taking inventory the hub had to be moved. This hub has one of those 9v converters and of course was pull out of the hub. What I still don't understand is why LP still thought it printed the job. Anyway I think all is solved.

Isn't that the way it always is?

Client: "The printer won't print. It passes its test and will print a test page. All the other printers and computers are running fine. The problem must be with the box you set up."

Consultant looks and looks and looks and looks and doesn't see anything wrong. The problem is fixed when the computer is rebooted. Later, the client 'remembers' that they always unplug the router to do inventory (so the numbers won't change till the get a count, right?)

sheesh!
