I need your advice and opinion on a Crystal Reports software purchase I am planning to make.

The company I work for uses Crystal Reports 8 Developer Edition software.
It sounds to me like they don't want to spend the money to upgrade to version 8.5 at this time. The company I work for has always bought me software to use in my home office, but now I want to buy my own software so that I own it and control it.

I can buy Crystal Reports 8 Developer Edition Full Product from Crystal Decisions website for $544. I hate to spend that much because I fear that any day the company I work is going to upgrade to version 8.5. I spoke to the boss yesterday and he does not want to spend the money on any upgrades right now, but what if. Personally, I wanted to purchase Crystal Reports 8.5 Developer Edition Full Product (probably cheaper than older version), but if I buy that version I will not be compatible with the company that I work for.

I searched the Internet looking for a less expensive source to purchase version 8. I can't seem to find another source. Does anyone know who is selling the older version for less? Thanks for the information.
