Chris,

Thanks for your interest! I really appreciate the feedback.

The examples are in the works. They will be available early this coming week. There will be a link to them under the help menu and I'll also post it here.

In the meantime, if you have an ODBC connection setup for the Northwind database simply select that connection from the ODBC connections menu. The properties of the connection are displayed to the right of the menu. Under the selected Northwind connection there are three choices:

1) System Tables
2) Tables
3) Views

Selecting the Tables menu will display all tables found on that connection to the right in a grid. You can double click or press enter to drill-down on a table and a new form will open displaying the data for that table. The new form also displays the SQL select statement used to retrieve the data. You can edit the statement and execute again. Right now the data is read-only but it will be updatable by tomorrow.

Another cool undocumented feature is when you exit the application it prompts you to save settings. If you say yes it will save all opened forms including their size, position, toolbars, menus and interfaces.

It currently doesn't save any SQL statement interfaces but that will be ready this coming week. When saving the SQL statement interface it prompts you for menu information to associate the interface with. Once saved the SQL statement interface will then be available from the Outlook bar and Folder List menu with a name you give it.

When this feature is done you will be able to create many SQL Statements quickly and save them to the "service database". What does this mean? Well once saved to the "service database" these SQL statements can be shared with other users by placing the "service database" on a network.

In the production version service databases can be either a Visual FoxPro, SQL Server or Oracle database. Service databases can also be included into a compiled VFP executable to create a read-only "service" for distribution. The IdServiceManager.exe is a special read-only service. It's role is to manage "services" for the interface component (IdInterface.exe), it contains an included Visual FoxPro "service database" with data, business, interface, menu class information used to update a "service databases" - that's the "Service Manager" interface you can access from either the File,Service Manager Window menu or the View, System Manager menu.

I recently completed a client/server project with Columbia University using "service databases" as both Visual FoxPro and Oracle databases. They licensed the application framework as the foundation for Visual FoxPro mission-critical applications that access FoxPro, Oracle and MS Server data. Info Digger is an application built on the framework that I've been working on in my spare time. It's my full time focus now!

I hope this helps until the examples are ready. The best is yet to come and coming quickly.

Will

>Thanks for developing this. Can you at some point provide an example of how you can use this program, maybe using the Northwind database in SQL Server, or the example database with VFP? That's just me, but I learn best by seeing an example <g>.

>>Well, here it is... my last five years as a VFP developer. The application is called Info Digger and the framework it's built on have been my main focus, hell it's been my life. I decided the members of the UT are the best to judge VFP applications so I've released an evaluation copy here in the download section.
