But that's exactly Mike's point - if we don't have a reason to move, we stay still, if we don't have a reason to study, we don't, the depressing view is when we take this to it's logical conclusion & decide that we don't have a reason to live & so stop living - either physically (suicide) or metaphorically (catatonia).
