I had a very repeatable method to trigger the error, so I am quite confident that this solved it. However, I do have one helluva SQL statement complete w/ an embedded IIF that Mark McCasland helped me w/ a few years back. Since the error only triggered somewhere during the SQL generation/execution, the root cause must be as you suspected. Hopefully this will keep the problem away as modifying the SQL code would get ugly.

How about posting the problem for this SQL here again and may be we can come with a better idea for this SQL.
Though I guess Chris solution was the ticket.
