Let it be noted that something quite extraordinary happened today: VFP received the following brief mention in the Microsoft for Partners Newsletter for August 12, 2002, under the Downloads section:

MICROSOFT VISUAL FOXPRO 7.0 SERVICE PACK 1
http://www.microsoft.com/partner/go/newsletter/081202/foxpro.asp

Don't laugh! Sure, this doesn't sound like news to us, and it may seem a bit lacking as a promotional piece, but it is nevertheless a significant bit of PR, not for what it says, but where it is said. To my recollection, this is the first time VFP has ever been mentioned in any way at all in the Microsoft for Partners Newsletter.

The reason I attach so much importance to this publication is that it is very widely circulated, not just to programmers (as is MSDN Flash), but to managers and business decision makers. The merest mention of VFP here carries the subliminal message that FoxPro continues to exist and it has Microsoft's support. The complete absence of VFP from these newsletters, on the other hand, sends the opposite message.

Let's hope that this seemingly minor reference to FoxPro was not an accident, but an indication that Microsoft is coming to the realization that VFP is not a four-letter word. Who knows, maybe MS will even figure out a way to fit VFP somewhere into the Microsoft for Partners web site, and I sure hope they don't miss the upcoming news about Toledo!

Anyway, I just want to say thanks to Ken and whoever else was responsible for making it happen. The mention did not go unnoticed, and it is sincerely appreciated.
