>>>The extent to which this goes, to have people want this Reason to the point of suicide for the lack of it, is just showing the absurdity of this way of thinking.<<

>Depression is a physical illness that results in lack of motivation and a strong link with suicide.

>Depression and similar disorders are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. How odd that a chemical imbalance causes a motivational state that you say is caused by Religion.

>Perhaps the lack of motivation, or "meaning of life", has importance all on its own and we should focus on that rather than assigning blame according to our own opinions.
It surely has importance to those who have been brought up (or should I say "were brainwashed") to believe it has.
This belief surely doesn't help those who suffer from the physical state you mention: they surely feel worse if they're led to believe their lives are worthless without it.
Motivation doesn't necessarily have to come from the conviction that our lives are parts of The Grand Scheme of Things, or The Big Plan or whatever. Life itself should be motivation enough - you got that one to yourself, use it to do something good with it. Definition of "good" here may vary, but in general your intuitive definition of "good" is probably the best definition.
