Perhaps one of you can answer some doubts I have on this song. I did some searches on the Internet, but the information didn't seem conclusive.
1) How did the song come to this queer title?
2) I have heard two versions with the same melody, but different texts. One starts with "John Brown's Body...", the other, "Mine eyes have seen the glory...". Which is the original? Which is correctly called "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"?
3) Who was John Brown?
