Bill,
You can't do full web application development on the HOME edition of XP.
Because of many factors, not the least of which is the new MS mandatory registration requirement, I read many many people saying that they plan to stick with Win2K for the foreseeable future. Apparently realizing this trend, MS has purportedly told vendors that there is (now less than) 6 months for Win2K in the product stream.
I recently installed XP Home after a HD crash of my Win98SE system. I plan to buy a new power system on which I currently plan to install XP Pro (not firm on the OS yet) mainly so that I can have it on hand for 'experience' BUT my main development system will remain Win2K on my final system.
good luck
>I will be looking into acquiring a new machine for home use. This will include development work ( VFP, VB, VC++, web stuff, etc. ) and typical home stuff such as running games etc. What are the relative merits of using WinXP or Win2k as the OS in this scenario?

I would like get as much factual information regarding the relative merits of these two OS's before committing myself to one for home use.
