Well John in my option the best option is to create a "com" server side component and pass the SQL to the server let the server do the work and pass the cursor back to the workstation.

now for the problem

I have never setup anything like that, so I would stick with what works as long as the end-users are happy then I would be happy

also I would buy him lunch and say "the server isn't doing one tenth of what it needs to do, so be happy I haven't made it catch on fire yet"
