>We have a VFP6 database app running on a new and powerful server under Windows NT. An average of 10 users logged in to the database. The app seems to be running very slowly. Could it be some memory setting? Any hints or clues as to what to tinker with in NT or elsewhere - most gratefully received here. Thank you.
Hi Denis,
I had the exact same thing happen to me last year. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the actual solution was after all the stuff we tried. We found that we had to turn off norton auto-protect on the workstations, or the app would croak. I seem to remember fixing some registry entries dealing with file caching on the server also. You may want to monitor your network and CPU utilization during a query and see if you can find what the bottleneck is. My guess is that it is not memory related.
We once had a network switch go bad that caused that to happen due to all the collisions and re-trys when reading tables in the network drives.
Can I assume the app ran faster on the older server?
