John, happens all the time and about impossible to fight (and win ...).

My opinion as off (about) today : give up and have some SQL DBMS connected.
But to be clear : I fully agree with you.

In case it might help you :

Whereas I myself hardly can point to any reference outside my own company using VFP apps of larger size (prooving the good performannce in an objective manner), possibly you can;
Assumed there is no competition between us (didn't look to find out) you are obviously free to point "them" to our website, containing all the info about our around 80 ERP customers. Some have 20 concurrent users, some have well over 100, and all have (hundreds of) tables of millions of records (depending on how long they use Heart-Profit). Please note that it is always our strict guarantee that the one user never notices the other in the (known) very heavy environment of ERP; never received a complaint so far.

Our website contains a "Clients" entry in the left frame, and all of them contain an email address to use by "anyone who likes it". Your precious prospect may use it too. Tell him to ask a random client of us about his ideas on performance.
If you like it, I even could direct you to a (now restricted) page including all the email addresses of all. Your prospect could use it as a mailing (a click on the link concerned will address all of our clients).

If you like, tell him that I want to bet with him that "we" will outperform him. On the other hand, never mind, because (really too many) persons with something like this in their head (having obtained more education than you etc.) ... just drop them.

BTW, what would he mean "I am sure you will get a ton of info on MSDN on it. (Thats why they have discontinued it)" ??
What's really in there ?

Peter

>We received an email from a company asking for work the other day, we replayed back saying we were using VFP7. They replied saying they didn't do must work with VFP as it was not very scalable. I sent a message back saying VFP was scalable and under certain conditions VFP was as fast or faster then SQL Server. They have replied back with the message below. We only use VFP native database and all our application are desktop apps at present. Can anyone give me some information to show them the error of there ways.

>Like Access, VFP is isnt very scalable. I am sure you will get a ton of info on MSDN on it. (Thats why they have discontinued it) There is absolutely no comparision between VFP and SQL Server for mid to large applications. I agree for the smaller applications with very little concurrent load it works, however as the number of concurrent users increases performance degrades.
