Please note that if you can compress the entire memo file to a factor 10 with WinZIP, that doesn't imply that you will get the same compression ratio
by compressing each individual memo field. A compression involving the entire file will take advantage of similarities between one memo field and another one, and, therefore, achieve a higher compression ratio.
Even with a compression ratio of 1:10, it is still valid to ask whether the compression is worth the trouble. For instance, are you concerned about exceeding the 2 GB limit per file?
In VFP 6, you can save some space by setting SET BLOCKSPACE TO 0 before creating the memo.
