Four, what will he use as a GUI? If it is web work, the only advatage to SQLServer is size. Desktop, well then he will need another tool for the GUI. VB and ADO with a SQLServer backend is about as slow as it gets. Five, have him compare the cost of one developer using VFP and one developer,

That arises the question whether you want to work people that evidently don't have experience with VFP.

For your own purposes: I didn't have serious trouble with VFP, even with more than 100,000 records in a table. While I don't have practical experience with more than a million records in a table, I am sure this should be possible, too.
