>I used it a lot several years ago (in VFP 5) and it works well. It's definitely not as easy to use as the Pervasive (the new name for Btrieve) ODBC driver, but the performance is an order of magnitude better. There's a bit of a learning curve, and the docs are OK but not great, but I recommend it if performance is important.
I never have learned to use ADO sort of access, more comfortable with cursor/table like views of things (and besides, I'm mostly doing things with sets of records)... so I never really got much use out of DBFTrieve or the the ActiveX components from Pervasive, but I use their ODBC to pull data through SQL passthrough.
One thing (probably specific to only places like ours)-- our Btrieve data was actually created by Dataflex for Btrieve, and the tables do not meet Pervasive's specs. Our tables have comment or note fields which are not the final field in the row, and other oddities. Because of this, I've had a terrible time getting some data from our system. Those notes fields come through ODBC (and Crystal and every other thing except Dataflex's own utilities) as a two high-order ASCII characters. In other words, to read those fields, I have to DFQUERY the data to a text file and read it into Foxpro, in a two step, not program-able process.
Cheers,
Kevin
