It's kind of standard for barcode scanners to allow for such configuration parameter (and others, such as what type of barcode are recognized, if it beeps or not, etc.). So my suggestion is that you check the scanner documentation and get it configured the way you need it. If this is not possible, probably it should be wiser to change to a more flexible device.
