Thanks for your suggestion. The information provided in that thread is helpful. I didn't know you could issue a command like

report form myreport to printer prompt preview noconsole

and tie the preview and printer dialog together. And this may be the best I can do. However what I was trying to do is get control of the printer via a custom dialog that might even let me select the paper feed (manual feed for labels) based on a user variable. The first step would be something like:

set printer to \\networkprinter1

Any thoughts?
