This is part of the backlash against .NET, detailed here: "Navigate the Web Services Hype" (
http://www.fawcette.com/dotnetmag/2002_09/magazine/columns/trends/ ), and is simply a phase in the maturing of .NET.
If you look at the following graph (
http://www.fawcette.com/dotnetmag/2002_09/magazine/columns/trends/figure1.asp) we are now entering the "Trough of disillusionment" phase, which you expouse so well. I hope we can all enter the "Slope of enlightenment" soon!
