Well, I tried this a while ago, but gave up when noticing that the CAB files were just as big as standard ZIP files.

I am now using pacomp.exe (the command-line version of Power Archiver - www.powerarchiver.com), with excellent results. Note that this is not an ActiveX object - I invoke it with commands like RUN or the ShellExecute() API function.
