OK, I think this is quite clear: return the total number of days that passed, for instance, between the two date-times. The example I gave you earlier can easily be adapted to give the total number of elapsed centuries, years, months, days, hours, minutes or seconds. Just change the final value (1e6) to another power of 100.

Some additional calculations are required for the total number of weeks.
