Jerry;
At one time I worked in the electronic test equipment lease/rental business at a Fortune 500 company. We had more acronyms than Carter has pills! We were having a top-level meeting with all our vice presidents, CEO and President and there was lots of tension. My vice president who had a great sense of humor out of nowhere opened with, “It is not professional to use TLA’s”! The CEO responded, “What are TLA’s”? “Why three letter acronyms”!, replied my vice president. Everyone cracked up and we got on with our business.
Where I work at present we published an Intranet page of TLA’s used in our automotive company by Toyota (who runs the plant) and General Motors (who is learning how to build automobiles and trucks). Every industry has TLA’s just to help confuse everyone.
When I was 17 in the Air Force, we used TLA’s and four letter acronyms, etc. for peoples names.
Tom = Tired Old Man (at 17 I did not feel tired)
Bob = Broken Old Bottle
Bill = Boy I Love Liqueur
Tom - I am not a TLA! But I am getting tired. :)
P.S. Take a look in the chatter section and I will tell you something about how the President and CEO thought about retention of employees! Also I will give a comment about the new HR director they hired that may interest you.
