No, just a really bad design decision. The alias prefix makes it plain the replace is to be done in a specific work area, not necessarily the current work area. It's something which should have been addressed when the ability to do a replace in non-current work areas was added to Xbase. Water long under the bridge, of course, so at this point it's known behavior that we have to live with.
