I'm going through this process myself. Here's what I've done.

I read the VFP Programmer's Reference, User's guide and Language reference and worked some of the material there. (Actually it was a cursory read and practice with VFP 7.)

Then I dug into the Codebook (available in Ed Leafe's web site) for a while. I kept making silly mistakes so I've put it aside for a while and haven't finished it. (This is a highly efficient free framework, but it's gueared for someone with some background in programming. You would probably get through it much better since you do have programming background.)

Then I purchased two books: The Fundamentals... (see Hentzenwerke's web site for these and more books on VFP), Egger's Advanced Object Oriented Programming, The Hacker's Guide.

I can almost guarantee you that if you follow through fully and consistently with the code and explanations in those sources you will be an accomplished developer in VFP 7 and then some... ;)
