Zoinks -was that the Z80 one or the 8080/8085? EDitor/ASseMler

I was the last class in college to have to do the one sophomore EE course the old-fashioned way - edit and assemble 8080 program on Cyber-20 mainframe, walk to other buildng with ~8 S-100 bus 8080 CP/M computers, download program onto 8" floppy, test, repeat. I could do it all on my TRS-80 using CP/M but the prof insisted I must show the executing program to the lab TA running on their machines - so I just did all the work on my computer and uploaded it to the Cyber. The next year they started using a PC-based emulator with an editor/assembler. Since it was easier logistically to do the work they made the assignments harder - as I found out while helping others get through the class.

Yeah, I go back that far - although I may not seem old enough. My first computer was an 1802 processor Super Elf from Quest. Hex keypad and all - still have it, still works. It was a kit I put together when I was in 8th grade. Before that, while I couldn't afford my own, I did buy all the manuals to the TRS-80 Model 1, and I spent tons of time in the local Radio Shack. I even had a binder and my own set of tapes to save my programs on.
