There've been all sort of ructions- actually one of the US yachts sank off California during testing, not a great look.
The question for little old New Zealand is how long a country of our size can hold off the billionaires from taking the cup back. Various rich teams (especially Europeans, in particular a Swiss crowd) have hired our best and brightest away by offering monstrous sums, I guess we'll have to see how we go.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
