This allows the product to specify how Internet Explorer should handle files associated with it when referenced from a web page for instance, it allows the product to specify whether the user should be presented with a warning dialogue before such a file is opened.

Since the article doesn't mention any remote possibility that there could be any other browser except IE, the reader (and the article is not targeting only VFP programmers) may be misleaded into thinking that

- if there's some other browser registered as default, the app doesn't need to register with it, because it only "should register itself with Internet Explorer"

- the flaw doesn't apply to any other browser

- if IE is not the default browser, the app can't be registered at all

- the app registering the extension of the files it opens directly is done through its registration in IE, since the registration at the registry level is not mentioned at all

etc etc... very refined language targeted at creating the illusion that no other browsers ever existed.
