The actual change was how I named text files that are exported. Instead of auto-incrementing the filename-001.txt, the user requested that I have a fixed filename.

e.g.

Instead of:

filename-001.txt to filename-999.txt

The user wanted:

filename-001.txt = all data e.g. A-Z codes
filename-002.txt = data of a specific type e.g. Only code M
filename-003.txt = all other data that is not the above specific type e.g. Every code but M


The slowness was detected during an Import of data, not an Export. The main data entry form was also slow.
