Okay, you just too OLD to have been a soccer player (unless you are the product of some rich prep-school I've always suspected you of being) so this sounds like ... SOCCER DAD!

How are those terrific daughters?

>>> The formal term is “Goal Keeper”. <<
>
>Correct, although it is spelled as a single word: goalkeeper.
>
>I don't care how many people call them goalies, it is incorrect. It betrays the typical American ignorance of soccer.
>
>While not disputing that you may have heard people from England call them goalies, the dozen or so Brits who are active in our AYSO region without exception call them goalkeepers or keepers.
>
>I am not expressing a parochial view. Check the official documents governing soccer at www.fifa.com and see if you can find the word "goalie" anywhere. You won't.

>Mike

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
