There are no trick: the syntax:
MyForm.MyTreeView.StartLabelEdit
is the one, which is available.

Your problem is another BUG in VFP 6.0/7.0 using ActiveX controls: if you invoke StartLabelEdit() method from CommandButton's Click event in VB 6.0, this will raise BeforeLabelEdit event - you can test it :-)
