You say there are 2GB of physical RAM and a single processor? What is the -exact- CPU type and stepping in use? If you are using any Slot1 or SlotA variant CPU, as opposed to a Slot2 variant processor (Xeon family) CPU, you will probably find that you have too much physical memory in the machine for the processor which results in an address space wraparound. You might try reducing the amount of physical memory in the machine, perhaps to as little as 512MB of physical memory, if you do not have a Xeon family processor; in fact, there are Celeron family processors that can't even address a full 512MB of RAM.
