To expound on what Mark said, there are inexpensive ActiveX barcode utilities(
http://www.tec-it.com/), free barcode fonts (Z:3of9 Barcode TrueType font), and many impact printers will print barcodes if you call the command in your printjob. Hope this gives you a start.
