Fellow Penquins,
I just downloaded the Open SOurce Edition of Borland's latest version of Kylix3.

This version is interesting because it includes two IDEs: Pascal AND C++.
When you register to download they email you a key (reg92.txt) that is tied to your registration information. It has to reside in your home directory.

The Open Edition does NOT include many built in database connection controls for DBExpress, but they do give you settings for the odbc.ini file for MySQL and PostgreSQL once you find a DBExpress control that connects to these two databases. (Look for Zeos db controls for Kylix. I haven't checked yet, but they'd be the most likely source for C++ connectivity).
The Open Edition binds to the GNU libc libraries and produces only GPL code. If users want to produce propriatary code they must used the desktop edition. Unfortunately, the DE of Kylix3 doesn't seem to be available for download, only the Enterprise Edition ($2,000) is.
More later.
