The Esc and just continueing just implies that the app doesn't capture the "locked" status of the record/file. Remember, locking is a convention only, and it doesn't prevent from obtaining the record/file at all.

Further, Set Maximum File Locks Per User (similar) to 512. And Set Maximum File Locks to the number of max users * 512 (at least).
If you don't understand where this is coming from, it's typical that these Novell settings are too low.
