Hi Craig:
>Why buy something when you can get it free.
That may be the case where something can be written successfully in VFP but just takes a lot of effort - the Fox community has always put "why re-invent the wheel" type utilities and "time savers" in the public domain. As far as I can see, Rich's tool does things that just cannot be achieved with pure VFP code.
>I think Rich would be better off selling lots of copies at a lower price than a few copies at a higher price.
That may be so, but the active Fox market is small by definition. There simply aren't enough "active" VFP developers to "stack it high and sell it cheap". For a lot of developers, maybe the VFP report writer will suffice. But for the specialist applications that demand more, that is a smaller pie again. So Rich is, IMHO, correct by pricing his tool at a more "specialised" price.
Your comments about Crystal's generic approach are again fine for Crystal. However, sometimes its nice to have a TP tool that is specific and completely understands Fox, and the authors of that tool understand Fox, its strengths and its foibles. The more specific the tool is to its audience, the easier it is to use and deploy.
