Amen, I think it's main values may be prettying up the final report and addressing printer compatibility (although I'm not too sure on the second point).

Tell me about it! I'm planning on adding the "card type" as the last sort field and let the report writer accumulate the sub-totals instead of me doing it in a UDF. Before printing the report I'll make a pass on the data and calculate the final totals to the same array I already have and print that at the end of the report. At least I'll not loose the coding I did to print the array. The format of the report will change a bit but at least all the information will still be there.
Anyway, thanks for your input, it got me to thinking about other things than simply throwing in the towel, and it confirmed my suspicions about the limitations of the report writer.
