I didn't see the first question of this thread, but here's a solution to the slow printing that seems to work for me with XP:
Microsoft made a change that delays all DOS print jobs on any printer connected to a Windows 2000 system (and XP) by 15 seconds. Why the hell they did this, I've no idea. Here's how to fix it:
Launch a registry editor (either REGEDIT OR REGEDT32)
In \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WOW,
there should be a key named "LPT_timeout", set to a default value of 15 seconds. Change the value of LPT_timeout from 15 to 1.
Your DOS print jobs should start faster.
