Get a copy of zonealarm3 and turn off "popup ads".
IMHO ZA or similar is *essential* if you are working outside a proper hardware port-blocking firewall. FWIW so far this morning Zonealarm has blocked incoming or outgoing attempts to connect to ports 132, 1032, 139, 445, 110, 25, 4389, 4384. Two ? malicious scripts/ActiveX controls (including one on Alex's article < g > ) have been blocked in the last week as well. I have no idea what any of this is (presumably from HTML spam e-mails and web searching) but I'm glad it is being blocked.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
