Actually, you *can* bind controls to field values of ADO recordsets. You're right, the forms won't be ADO aware but you can manually enter a field value as a ControlSource if you know that recordset will be preent at runtime. However, you still need a mechanism to update the current field values back to the source database or refresh the local values.

If you have control over the design and it's a new project, it's probably best in the long run if you use an n-tier approach rather than tying your forms to data directly, regardless of the format.
