There is some softwares (like PCanywhere) that you can customize for a purpose of data/files exchange.. There is the Web that allow you to FTP files or e-mail them to others.. Even in the MS explore you can share some resources (as your folder) between computers..

But, if all of this is not usefull for you, be ready to start a very long journey.. Mainly, to understaing how each communication protocol works..
