Jim;
I agree that the media, especially the availability of television at almost any point on earth is reason for concern. This gives international meaning to the sociological term “The Have’s and Have Not’s”! Tune in to any television station to find out what happened on the other side of the world. The concerns, which were once local, are now presented to everyone willing and able to watch and listen. We have “information overload” due to this type of reporting.
The phenomenon of the poor viewing the rich by watching television has been going on for at least 40 years. Either everyone will have “a chicken in every pot” or the world will look like a piece of 80-grit sandpaper. Somehow I think the latter is most probable given the abilities of mankind.
The United States has the ability at this moment to destroy the world 770 times over with our nuclear arsenal. I can foresee entire nations being turned to glass (high temperatures and sand) because we want our freedom at any price. If we eliminate the poor think of how much better the world will be! Now where do we establish the threshold for “poor”?
