>It was good to meet you at San Diego in 1995, when VFP 3.0 was launched. I remember I had to translate the presentations for you. *You* have come a long way! Remember that we saw, not met, Ken Levy with his long hair: "He wrote GenScreenX" was the buzz.
That was the old Ken, talking so fast and showing so many cools things at once.
Yeah, life is treating me well, I have worked hard and I guess I had burned out my bad karma. I still struggle with my English, it is way more difficult than learn VFP!
What you said is true, we can do marvels with a humble tool; I wrote a big system in FoxPro 2.6 DOS, it took a small team and almost 4 years to complete it, the financial company using it is right now the first/best in efficiency in my country, and they are still using my system.
When I came to the US I had a final talk with its president and he told me, “I don't care about Windows, I don't care about DOS, all I care is that this system is fast, is powerful, and does what we need”. Mostly because vendors warming they ears, they had looked around for a replacement, but no other system -so far- performs as well, does all and is as integrated as mine.
>About amnesty, I don't agree (sorry). MS should not place the license price too high, but it should insist on it. As programmers we wouldn't like anything else.
Well, Panama and Costa Rica -I think- are kind of an anomaly in Central America, you have dollars there, and the economy is different than the countries around. In Ecuador, the base salary is $80 a month, you can figure out things from there.
And I really think an amnesty could gather tons of people to the VFP crowd.
Maybe an amnesty is not applicable to Panama. :)
Yes, Maria and I will be at the DevCon enjoining it as every time we go, looking some gurus being humble and seeing some others being stars, learning a lot and meeting new people and making few good friends from around the world.
Sure, we'll tell you about it and VFP 8, I hardly can wait.
I read about the hugs vs. handshakes just a bit.
I hug my friends when I have the opportunity, and for most of the cultures hugging is the right way of demonstrating true, deep friendship.
Over here I have heard young fellas talking about being manly and not being pussy, than Yoga is not for men and lots of things like that.
I just laugh, I'll be 40 in December, at this age as when I was 20, being concerned about showing or expressing my feelings is total nonsense.
So, un gran abrazo, :)
...Y soy feliz, bien feliz, asi lo grito;
Mira, que el mundo sepa, que se sepa:
Soy feliz....
...And I'm happy, quite happy, so do I yell it;
Look, so the world knows it, so be known:
I'm happy...
