I would think you would have to ask what time do you need first.

If I wanted the time from the server then it would make most since for some piece of code on the server to get the time I.E. SP or trigger. Getting the time at the server takes care of all sorts of bad time issues on clients. Most networks that I have been around do not have a system setup to keep all clients on the network synched up with a particular servers time.

If you wanted the time from the users machine, I.E. The user is somewhere in a different time zone and it was important to know their time for an update then you will have to send the users time somehow. Either as a parameter to a SP or in a SQL Pass Through or through some sort of write to a clients dataset I.E. a Remote View in VFP.
