Are you using a filter when you edit the current record, if so nothing happens until the record pointer is moved. Alternatively this is how events fire when a grid gets focus

The grid's When event fires
The When event of the CurrentControl in the first column fires
The GotFocus event of the CurrentControl in the ActiveColumn fires
The grid's AfterRowColChange event fires
