if you haven't already spent a ton of time doing it another way,
i agree with Cetin's suggestion to use DTS. not super fast, but
quite powerful. you can do (data-type) conversions and substitutions
during the import procedure using DTS. took me a while to learn
all the intracies, but a great tool.
